The Need

NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC), the governing body responsible for regulating and licensing the city's for-hire vehicles, faced the challenge of ensuring their 180,000 drivers remained compliant with essential training and safety standards. Every three years, drivers must renew their license by taking a comprehensive training course covering various critical topics. 

The Challenge

The TLC needed to ensure that a vast and diverse group of 180,000 drivers received standardized, accessible, and impactful training. The course needed to cover a wide range of topics, including: 

  • Renewal License Essentials
  • Important Rules and Responsibilities
  • Vehicle Safety 
  • Exceptional Customer Service, including serving individuals with disabilities and the LGBTQ+ population 
  • Resources available for drivers

The Solution

MYCA Learning partnered with TLC to develop and deliver a robust, accessible online training program. MYCA undertook the following steps:

  • Course Development: Created engaging, interactive content that covered all required topics, ensuring compliance with Federal and State regulations for persons with disabilities (ADA compliance).
  • Diverse and Inclusive Training: Included specific modules on providing exceptional customer service to diverse populations, including individuals with disabilities and the LGBTQ+ community.
  • Accessibility: Ensured all training materials were 508 compliant and adhered to WCAG 2.0, Level AA guidelines making them accessible to all learners.
  • Assessment Tools: Integrated quizzes and interactive elements reinforce learning and assess participant retention.
  • Regular Updates: Structured the course to allow for easy updates and modifications, ensuring the content remains current and relevant.

The Result

The collaboration resulted in a comprehensive, easy-to-access training course that 180,000 TLC drivers could complete every three years to renew their licenses. The course ensured all drivers received consistent, high-quality training on crucial topics, from vehicle safety to exceptional customer service.
