The Need
Entergy, a major integrated energy company, sought to develop a comprehensive training program for underground utility locators. Entergy’s existing on-the-job training method lacked consistency, with varying instructions depending on the trainer. The goal was to establish a formal training program incorporating industry-standard best practices. The City of Los Angeles sought to enhance its employee training programs to be inclusive and compliant with all Federal and State regulations, specifically focusing on accessibility for persons with disabilities. The city needed comprehensive training solutions that incorporated software, graphics, audio, video presentations, closed captioning, and more to ensure compliance with ADA, Section 508, and WCAG 2.0, Level AA Guidelines.
The Challenge
Entergy faced the challenge of ensuring all locators received uniform and thorough training, reducing variability in information dissemination. They aimed to create accessible online training courses compliant with Federal and State regulations for persons with disabilities (ADA Compliance), including various multimedia elements and assessment tools.

The Solution
Entergy partnered with MYCA Learning to address these needs. MYCA undertook the following steps:
- Initial Meetings and Observations: MYCA met with Entergy's Damage Prevention team in October 2022 to understand their goals, objectives, and training topics. They observed daily tasks of locators, capturing videos and images for the course.
- Development of Learning Objectives: The objectives included understanding 811 tickets, using the DigTix system, reading Entergy facility maps, proper use and care of locate equipment, and adhering to safety practices.
- Training Outline and Feedback: MYCA developed a training outline, followed by a detailed storyboard created with expert advice. Feedback was sought at every stage to ensure alignment with training goals.
- Course Creation and Adjustment: The content was initially used in classroom sessions, which MYCA attended to observe delivery. Post-session, they collaborated with Entergy to refine the online course.
