Designing for Inclusivity: Principles of Accessible Course Creation

At the recent WBENC Conference, attendees in Kolar’s immersive RESET room were invited to experience something new, a 3-minute journey into clarity, calm, and focus with YScape, our newest innovation at MYCA Learning.

YScape is more than a moment of relaxation. It’s a tool for transformation.
In just a few minutes, it helps reset your nervous system, quiet your mind, and prepare your brain for what’s next. And for many learners, especially those who are neurodivergent, that pause can make all the difference.

In this blog, we’re exploring how immersive technology like YScape is changing the way we think about training, attention, and workplace well-being.

1. How can immersive tech like AR/VR better support neurodivergent employees?

Immersive technologies like AR and VR can create safe, customizable environments that reduce sensory overload and anxiety while supporting different learning styles. For neurodivergent employees, who may face challenges with overstimulation, social interaction, or attention, this offers a powerful path to engagement.

At MYCA, we see tools like YScape as essential. Unlike traditional training methods that assume a “one-size-fits-all” approach, immersive tech adapts to the user.
VR experiences can simulate real-life scenarios, allow learners to move at their own pace, and provide sensory-friendly environments that feel both safe and engaging.

YScape, for instance, helps prepare learners for deeper cognitive tasks by clearing mental clutter and improving emotional regulation. It creates the conditions where learning is not just possible but optimized.

2. What do most companies get wrong about designing for cognitive diversity?

Too often, eLearning is designed with only one type of brain in mind. It might be fast-paced, overly verbal, visually cluttered, or rigidly linear, all of which can be barriers for neurodivergent learners.

Here’s what many companies miss:

  • Over-reliance on dense text
  • Lack of pacing flexibility
  • Sensory distractions
  • Minimal user autonomy

At MYCA, we follow Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to offer multiple means of engagement, representation, and expression. That includes visual storytelling, closed captioning, self-guided navigation, downloadable transcripts, and flexible pacing.

We also ensure all of our courses meet WCAG 2.1 and Section 508 standards, making our content not only inclusive, but equitable.

Designing for cognitive diversity isn’t a bonus feature, it’s the baseline for effective learning.

3. What’s one MYCA solution you’re excited about right now?

It’s definitely YScape, our latest leap forward in learner wellbeing and focus.

YScape is a guided, immersive VR experience designed to give learners a reset. It’s short (just 3 minutes), sensory-friendly, and intentionally calming. Whether you’re preparing to lead a training, take in new information, or just coming off a stressful interaction, YScape helps your mind shift gears.

It’s rooted in a powerful idea:
Wellbeing fuels attention. And attention drives performance.

YScape was created to give learners, especially those navigating high-stress environments or cognitive fatigue, a chance to find their center. In a world that’s always asking us to do more, YScape is a space that gently asks: Are you ready to begin?

Why YScape Matters

In one of our favorite moments from the WBENC conference, a participant walked out of the YScape experience and simply said, “I didn’t know how much I needed that.”

That’s the power of a well-designed mental reset.

For organizations committed to creating inclusive, high-performance cultures, tools like YScape are more than nice-to-have, they’re essential. They create a moment of clarity before the moment that matters.

Want to bring YScape to your organization?

Let’s talk. We’ll help you explore how immersive learning can support your team’s focus, wellbeing, and performance, especially for neurodiverse learners.
